Will's Safety Message
Montana truckers are known for their resilience and grit—it’s part of what makes our industry the backbone of the state’s economy. But that same “tough guy” attitude that powers through challenges can sometimes lead to pushing limits too far. Overexertion and ignoring warning signs may seem like part of the job, but they can result in injuries that sideline even the toughest drivers.
This topic is so large and complex because it speaks to a mindset deeply ingrained in our industry. That’s why we’re dedicating two weeks to exploring how to recognize, respect, and work within your limits. By shifting the focus from powering through to working smarter, we can protect Montana’s truckers—and keep them moving forward, mile after mile.
Let’s break down these challenges together and build a safer, healthier trucking culture. Stay tuned for practical tips to stay upright, strong, and ready for the road ahead!
Safety Series Part 5A: Material Handling, Know Your Limits (Section 1)
Every trucker knows the importance of getting the job done, but when it comes to your health, knowing your limits is critical. Overexertion can lead to injuries that take you off the road—and out of the game.
Why Knowing Your Limits Matters
Pushing yourself too far often leads to:
Fatigue: Increasing mistakes and reducing control over heavy loads.
Strains and Sprains: From attempting tasks beyond your physical capacity.
Chronic Injuries: Long-term damage that slows recovery and keeps you from work.
How to Work Smarter, Not Harder
Ask for Help: No one expects you to do it all alone. Heavy or awkward loads? Call for a hand or use tools.
Use the Right Equipment: Tools like pallet jacks, dollies, and forklifts are there to protect you—use them!
Montana Truckers Stay Safe
Knowing your limits isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s a smart way to protect yourself and your career. Stay safe and ready for the next mile!
