Congratulations to the Members of Mt State Fund Work Comp Group! Due to their hard work and the value they placed on employee safety, the group earned a nice safety return.

Rear Impact Guard Labeling Requirement

The American Trucking Associations (ATA) applauds FMCSA’s decision to enhance the safety of our industry by adding rear impact guards to the list of items inspected annually. ATA also applauds FMCSA’s decision to harmonize FMCSR 393.86 with FMVSS 223 and 224 regarding the placement of the rear underride guard’s label. Operation Safe Driver Week

This year's Operation Safe Driver Week is scheduled for July 10 -16. Law Enforcement personnel in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. will be on roadways throughout that week issuing warnings and citations to commercial motor vehicle and passenger vehicle drivers engaging in unsafe driving behaviors, such as speeding, distracted driving, following too closely, improper lane change, drunk or drugged driving, etc. Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) released its largest annual traffic crash report, showing that 38,824 lives were lost in traffic crashes nationwide in 2020 ... Welcome New Member Great Falls College MSU

Great Falls College MSU is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). Established in 1969 and centrally located, Great Falls College prides itself on being a student-central two-year college providing quality educational opportunities responsive to community needs. The college is committed to workforce development and included it as part of their outreach mission. These educational trainings are offered through the Center for Lifelong Learning and are organized under varying instructional formats such as workshops, seminars, conferences, institutes, symposia, short courses, etc. The purpose of the Center for Lifelong Learning is to provide non-academics and non-standardized coursework to both the on- and off-campus communities. They provide education and training for employees to advance their skills and knowledge in the driving industry and are excited to start offering CDL Training.


Scholarship Application

MTA is now accepting scholarship applications from Montana students completing their senior year in high school or currently enrolled in a Montana College, University, Trade school, or other educational institution and working toward an undergraduate degree. Students must be an employee (or the dependent of an employee) of a Montana Trucking Association Member to be eligible. The student must be a Montana resident planning to attend a Montana College, University, Trade school, or other educational institution. The Scholarship Committee will decide the amount of each individual award at the time of selection. Fleet Safety

The MTA Fleet Safety Contest year runs from January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021. The Fleet Safety Contest is based on Montana miles and DOT recordable accidents that occurred in Montana. CRITERIA FOR DOT RECORDABLE ACCIDENTS ARE: 1) Death. 2) Bodily injury requiring medical attention away from the scene. 3) One or more vehicles incurring disabling damage and requiring transport or towing from the scene. The six categories of competition are listed on the entry form. The Grand Trophy Award is open to all current MTA carrier members that have a minimum of 200,000 Montana miles. Plaques and certificates, sponsored by Great West Casualty Company, are presented to winners in each category at the MTA Annual Convention in Helena, MT June 9 - 11, 2022. The winner of this year’s award will be recognized at the MTA Convention in Helena, as well as being submitted as a nominee to the Rocky Mountain Regional Safety Rendezvous Safety Supervisor of the Year selection committee. Driving 101 – Part one of four Did you know distracted driving is now the number one cause of vehicular crashes? It is, and it's growing every year. In traffic, it is easy to become distracted, frustrated, or annoyed. Any of these can cause you to pay less attention than you should, often resulting in rear-end collisions when the vehicle in front of you stops. Running stop lights and stop signs is also a possibility if you are not paying attention. Take care, and be safe out there. Thanks Mike
